5m Tall & 27m Long Privacy Screen

A 27‑metre privacy screen created in a very narrow 1.5‑foot gap between a shed wall and a stone boundary wall. The aim was to install an evergreen, natural barrier using mature climbers in a space too tight for fencing or machinery.

What I Did

  • Cleared the entire trench by hand, removing large buried boulders

  • Improved soil structure and drainage in a confined space

  • Built a long‑span support frame suitable for mature climbers

  • Planted and trained ten 4‑metre Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides)

  • Tied in and shaped each plant to create immediate height and structure

Challenges Solved

  • Working in a 1.5ft‑wide corridor

  • Handling and positioning mature 4m climbers

  • Creating a stable support system without hard‑landscaping

  • Ensuring airflow and root health in a shaded, restricted area

Result A clean, natural, evergreen privacy wall that will continue to thicken and knit together, providing year‑round coverage, structure, and summer fragrance. A strong example of soft landscaping, structural planting, and problem‑solving in difficult spaces

Ground Clearance & Garden Rebuild - Fire Pit & Compost Area

Project Overview

This area started as an uneven, overgrown space filled with debris, logs, branches, and general garden waste. The ground had no structure, no level surface, and no defined purpose. The goal was to completely clear, level, and rebuild the area into a practical, tidy, low‑maintenance zone with a dedicated burning pit, two compost bays, and a clean gravel finish.

What I Did

  • Fully cleared the site, removing large piles of branches, logs, foliage, and mixed waste

  • Levelled the entire ground by hand, reshaping uneven soil and compacting it for stability

  • Installed two compost pits for organised green‑waste management

  • Created a dedicated burning pit area for safe, controlled disposal of woody material

  • Laid a full membrane to suppress weeds and keep the area low‑maintenance

  • Finished the space with stone chippings for a clean, tidy, long‑lasting surface

Challenges Solved

  • Managing a large volume of mixed garden waste

  • Levelling an uneven, root‑ridden ground surface

  • Creating functional zones in a previously unusable space

  • Ensuring long‑term weed suppression and easy maintenance

Result The area is now clean, organised, and fully functional — with a defined burning pit, two compost bays, and a stable gravel surface. A complete transformation from a cluttered, unusable corner into a practical working zone that supports ongoing garden maintenance.

Rockery Build

Project Overview A full rockery build measuring 17.9m long and 1.2–1.5m deep, created to add structure, height, and naturalistic planting to a previously plain slope.

Construction

  • Positioned around 140 boulders to form terraces, pockets, and natural contours

  • Added 33 × 900L bags of soil (approx. 29,700 litres) to shape depth and create stable planting zones

  • Formed a multi‑tiered layout with natural curves and varied heights

Planting

  • Structural shrubs at the back for height and year‑round presence

  • Mid‑tier perennials including foxgloves and campanulas for seasonal colour

  • Front‑edge spillers and crocosmia to soften the stonework and blend the rockery into the lawn

Result A natural‑looking, layered rockery with strong structure and long‑term planting interest — transforming the slope into a mature, established feature.
